Sunken Harbor Club started as a weekly tiki pop-up at owner St. John Frizell (@stjohnfrizell) Red Hook restaurant-bar @fortdefiance in 2013, and anchored down in Downtown Brooklyn October 2021. It was actually St. John’s quest to find a brick-and-mortar space for the Club that led him and his business partners, Ben Schneider and Sohui Kim, to Gage & Tollner back in 2017!

St. John tapped Chief Cocktail Officer Garret Richard (@garretjrichard) and former Head Bartender Stephen Bielawski to create the menu for our intimate, transportive little bar above Gage & Tollner. Drinks here draw inspiration from several sources: the vintage cocktail and travel writing of Charles H. Baker, Jr.; classic tiki drinks created at bars like Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s; and cutting-edge techniques that Garret learned working under culinary technologist Dave Arnold. Here, spirits are flash-infused under high pressure, juices are acid-adjusted to become more versatile, and fizzy drinks are made fizzier through forced carbonation. These “molecular” techniques never take center stage, but allow our bar team to create dazzling, unprecedented flavor combinations. Come join us this weekend and try them out for yourself - tell us your favorite! 🍹

Fresh lemon juice 1oz
Cream of coconut 1oz
Blue Curaçao 0.75oz
Dark Rum 1oz
Agricole Rum 1oz
Light Rum 0.5oz
Apricot Liqueur 0.25oz
(or, choose your own fruit flavored liqueur! No wrong choices! Apple, peach, cherry, berry... Whatever! It'll all work, maybe it won't. It'll be fun to see what happens!)

Blend with 8-10oz of crushed ice and pour into your glass, not mug. No point in blue milk if you can't see it! Garnish with miniature Lightsaber.

This concludes the celebrations and both auction sessions. What an event, start to finish this was tiki history in the making.

These two gentlemen took a modest garage basses business, combined it with love & aloha in the 1950’s and grew it to a 17,000 square foot warehouse and showroom. With hard work they filled it with tiki artifacts that made their mark, not only across the country and world but, into our hearts and lives.
Bob Van Oosting and LeRoy Schmaltz, mahalo. Mahalo for all you have done for tiki and I wish you health and happiness for years to come.

AUCTION DAY is upon us! This past month has been a tropical whirlwind with the ALOHA, OA! exhibition!

It’s been a Tiki homecoming, gathering fans, Tiki luminaries, history, xymposiums, presentations, food, drink, music and general good times as we bid farewell to Oceanic Arts and to the well-earned retirement of Bob Van Oosting and LeRoy Schmaltz.

A bittersweet celebration as this institution of the Tiki world closes its doors.

We’d like to thank Bob and LeRoy for trusting us with this huge task to bring their 66 years into focus while also spreading the joy and love their fans have for them and their work. Both Bob and LeRoy never imagined they were held in such high regard. They simply did what they did all these years and it’s this outpouring of affection that has taken them aback.

Thank you to the Peekaboo team, our partner vendors, local Tiki bars, bar staff, OA staff, OA families and especially our VOLUNTEERS for helping make this month the retirement party fir the ages!
