The cozy rockabilly bar has already been host to some top national touring acts, but its small capacity (around 150) has kept some of the bigger bands from playing there.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>That all ends when The Monterey&#8217;s new live music room roars to life this summer. The club, which is located on U.S. 1 just north of Fort Lauderdale International Airport (next to the Gold Coast Roller Skating Rink), has taken over the space next door, previously occupied by a motorcycle shop.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>Work has begun and plans call for a large stage and PA, possibly even a full liquor bar (it&#8217;s currently beer and wine). Led by vocalist\/bassist Kim Nekroman and his distinctive stand-up &#8220;coffin bass,&#8221; the Nekromantix have become the torch-bearers for the genre.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P>The band&#8217;s sound is a rapid-fire mix of surging anthemic punk and reverb-soaked rockabilly. The new album, which hits stores Aug. 2, features such riotous tunes as <I>Bats in my Pants<\/I>, <I>Sleepwalker with a Gun<\/I> and <I>Bela Lugosi&#8217;s Star<\/I>.<\/P><\/p>\n<p><P><B>Monday, Sept. 5 &#8211; Nekromantix<\/B> with The Howlers and Brain Chips at The Monterey Club, 2608A S.
