You have one last chance to check out the eye-catching exhibit of surf culture at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. Saturday’s closing event runs from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and includes slide shows, a movie screening, a surf music lecture, a DJ spinning some reggae and surf tunes, plus prize raffles, food and drinks.<\/p>\n

\"Surfing<\/a><\/p>\n

“Surfing Florida: A Photographic History” features the works of more than 50 photographers and 100 surfers, including archival photos; media stations featuring video, music and interviews; and lots of custom boards. <\/p>\n

All special programs will take place in the lecture hall next to he Schmidt Center Gallery on the FAU campus:<\/p>\n

* At 2 p.m., the New School Surf Photography Slide Show will be presented by photographer Nicola Lugo<\/a>, whose work has been featured in all the major surfing magazines.<\/p>\n

* At 3 p.m., the film Surfing at Summer’s End<\/em><\/a> will be screened, and Will Lucas of Surf 64 Productions<\/a> will be on hand to discuss his work, a historic documentary that combines vintage 8mm film, still photography and contemporary interviews. <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

* At 4 p.m., an Old School Surf Photography Slide Show will be presented by photographer John Tate Broward, who has been shooting since the 1970s.<\/p>\n

* At 5 p.m., FAU’s James Cunningham<\/a> will lecture on “Surf Rock and the Music of the ‘Right’ Coast.” The ethnomusicologist and associate professor of music will discuss the birth, rise, death and several rebirths of surf music as well as Florida’s unique connections and contributions. <\/p>\n

The Living Room Theatres Cafe next to the Schmidt Gallery will serve food, and a cash bar will open at 4 p.m. <\/p>\n

DJ Lance O from Kulcha Shok Muzik<\/a> will provide reggae and surf music tunes during the closing night party from 6 to 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

FAU is just east of Interstate 95 on Glades Road. Gallery visitors are asked to park in the four-story garage to the east of the gallery and not in front of the Living Room Theater. <\/p>\n

After FAU, the exhibit – which was designed to travel and will feature surfboards from the host regions – will move to the Pensacola Museum of Art<\/a> for a run May 24 through Sept. 3.<\/p>\n
