Mugs are the next best thing<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Southern California&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/tikidiablo.com\" target=\"new\">Tiki Diablo<\/a> (aka <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ElTikiDiablo\" target=\"new\">Danny Gallardo<\/a>), who created the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slammie.com\/atomicgrog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/hukilau2012mug.jpg\" target=\"new\">2012<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.slammie.com\/atomicgrog\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/hukilau-2013-mugs.jpg\" target=\"new\">2013<\/a> official mugs for The Hukilau, has a new <strong>Mai-Kai Mug<\/strong> based on an old fallen carving from the restaurant&#8217;s tiki garden (see photo below).<\/p>\n<p>Featuring a distinctive toucan perched on its head, the original tiki was among the many giant carvings at The Mai-Kai by Barney West, a legendary mid-century artist. But only Mai-Kai historian and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swankpadproductions.com\" target=\"new\">Swank Pad Productions<\/a> mastermind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swankpad.org\" target=\"new\">Tim &#8220;Swanky&#8221; Glazner<\/a> has had the inspiration (and motivation) to create a Tiki mug in her honor. He enlisted acclaimed artist and carver <a href=\"https:\/\/tikimania.com\" target=\"new\">Crazy Al Evans<\/a> to make his dream a reality. Jim now spends his time mixing cocktails, attending events and writing stories for this blog, which launched in 2011.
